A Trecanna Nursery hybrid that has been admired at our nursery for many years and was recently awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit. 'Tamar Double Red' is late to flower, starting well after Lucifer finishes and continuing into early Autumn so is good for extending the season. It bears sumptious rich wine-red flowers each withdramatic yellow stamens and anything between 8 and 14 petals (compared with the normal 6 petals) so not a true double but very different. It stands proud and upright (no flopping) to 1.5m high and is complimented by sturdy pleated leaves.
