There are two new varieties of Crocosmia we are offering in 2011 - 'Cornish Copper' and 'Prince of Orange', plus a species avaiable for the first time - Crocosmia matthewsiana.
'Cornish Copper' is a new Trecanna hybrid that I've been growing on for a number of years - amongst the many new hybrids, it stood out from the others. It bears large coppery-orange flowers with reflexed petals. The petals are long and narrow, slightly narrower at the base with a burgundy blush. The leaves are narrow and pleated. The wonderful colour prompted me to name it after the many copper mines that used to fill the countryside of Cornwall. 36-42" (90-105cm)Late Summer
Crocosmia 'Prince of Orange' is a brand new hybrid bred by friends in Holland….. It caught my eye when visiting there last year and we are please to be able to offer it for sale for the very first time in the UK. The erect stems bear up to 20 flowers. Each bloom is rich reddish-orange with a distinct golden centre that aloso displays 12 small burgundy flecks. It makes an excellent upright clump, and the attractive flowers are also followed by particularly attractive seedheads. The name comes from the title bestowed upon the heir to the crown of the Netherlands - a fitting name to this excellent new hybrid. 30-36" (75-90cm) Summer
