This is a wonderful new variety of Pineapple Lily that I fell in love with after finding it in 2010. it has the largest 'top knot' of all the pineapple lilies I know, looking like an impressive hat sat upon the large heads of pure white flowers. Growing to around 2ft (60cm) tall, it forms a very impressive plant either for pots or the border.
Eucomis are of South African origin
PLANT IN SPRING
Eucomis originate in Southern Africa and are commonly known as 'Pineapple Lilies' due to the obvious resemblance of the flower head and its crown of leafy bracts. The display lasts from summer to late autumn which is exceptional for a bulb. They make excellent container plants and are lovely in the border. Water and feed well whilst in growth, but keep the soil dry in winter. Eucomis are surprisingly hardy provided they have a winter mulch and good drainage. For full growing tips click on 'Cultivation Guides' on the menu on the left. |
